Corrections in Pan card

permanent Account Number (PAN) holds extreme importance in India, not only for Income Tax purposes but also as a proof of identity. If you are looking to correct your PAN details, it can be done online as well as offline.

Listed below are the steps you need to follow to get your name, date of birth, etc. updated on your PAN card, online:

Step 1 – Request for the ‘PAN change/correction’ application form through the NSDL or UTI website. The NSDL website is, https://tin.tin.nsdl.com/pan/correction.html.
Step 2 – Fill up the form and update the field in which you would like to make the change.
Step 3 – Consolidate your ID proof, address proof, and proof of date of birth.
Step 4 – Pay the amount charged for the required changes. This can be done through net banking, debit card, or credit card.
Step 5 – On the hard copy of the application form, paste your photograph and sign it.
Step 6 – Mail the form to the UTI or NSDL address. You should also include your ID proof, address proof, proof of date of birth, and a copy of your PAN Card along with the application form.

Steps to Apply for PAN Card Correction/Update Offline?

One can also apply for PAN Correction offline. You need to download the PAN Correction Form. Fill out this form and submit it at the nearest NSDL collection centre along with the copies of valid documents. You also need to file a letter with the jurisdictional Assessing Officer.

The required fields in offline form are similar to that in the online form. However, there are a few points one should keep in mind-
This form is used for making a correction in your existing PAN, reissuance of PAN and also for the purpose of surrendering extra PAN Card. So, before filling out the form, tick on the boxes carefully.

Once you submit the form, you will get an acknowledgement slip which is to be sent to NSDL office. This letter should reach the office within 15 days of filing the request.

The following documents are recognised as proof of identity:

Affidavit, gazette notification, or newspaper publication that indicates your name change
School certificates or diplomas
Passport
Bank account statement
Driver’s license
Voter ID card
Marriage certificate
Credit card
Divorce papers, in case you are applying for name change after divorce

You can submit any of the above documents as ID proof.The documents that are recognised as proof of address are:

Your utility bills at the current residence
Voter’s ID card
Passport

Any one of the above documents can be submitted as address proof for PAN Card name change.
